Custom Ceiling Panels
SEW Eurodrive
Project Location: Dallas, TX
Architect: Jones Studio
The construction of a new 145,000 sq. ft assembly plant was recently completed in the Dallas, Texas metro area for SEW Eurodrive, a motor manufacturing firm. Designers called upon Hendrick to produce ceiling panels for the building’s main entrance that incorporates a gear design.
The result was a series of custom gear-shaped cut-outs fabricated into the ceiling panels. The gear motif also wraps around corners and bends for a continuous flow, making the design even more dramatic when visitors walk into the building. The unique design portrays the company’s commitment to innovation while showcasing their motorized gear technologies. Besides the impressive aesthetics, the pattern layout also served important functionality. The open areas of the gears were strategically placed to maximize light transmission and access to the HVAC and sprinkler systems.
Hendrick manufactured the ceiling panels using 1/8" aluminum and laser cut the gears in four sizes, from 4 to 10" in diameter. To assure a trouble-free installation, Hendrick incorporated countersunk holes in the ceiling panels during the fabrication process for easy mounting. The panels were finished with a Kynar red coating to blend the ceiling with other design elements in the entryway.
