Perforated Metal Sunshades for Community Spaces
Ponce City Market
Project Location: Atlanta, GA
Perforation Pattern: .625" dia. holes | 18% open area
Architect: S9 Architecture
S9 Architecture designed and master planned Atlanta’s Ponce City Market, a former Sears, Roebuck & Co. distribution center re-envisioned as a vibrant community space and a model of urban redevelopment.
Hendrick fabricated the 300+ vertical sunshades that encase the mixed-use structure adjacent to the main building. Made from .190" aluminum, the vertical fins span more than 20' in height and protrude 1.5' off the mounting brackets. The 18% open area achieved with 5/8" diameter perforations provide adequate natural light to pass through to illuminate the interior while also giving the building an artistic privacy enhancement.
