Perforated Metal Cladding in South Florida

Project Location: Hallandale Beach, FL
Perforation Pattern: Custom 3" diameter
A modern and innovative office building that spearheads the surge of recent development in Hallandale Beach, Florida, sits prominently on a main roadway. The architect’s design intent was to leverage a panel system that would be off set from the glazing on the westward facing curtain wall to perform as a sun shade, but also feature a seamless and one-of-a-kind design.
With the architect’s aspirations in mind, Hendrick engineered and manufactured a complete system to meet building code requirements in this hurricane prone area. Fabricated from 3/8" thick aluminum that permit a 50 inch span between fastening points, flat panels were ideal to eliminate margins and push the 3" perforations to the horizontal edges allowing for the seamless applique. Large 4" x 8" aluminum tubes were selected for the sub-framing to carry the weight of the 7' tall panels and endure the forces brought on by high wind pressure. The PVDF coating offers the durability required to meet South Florida’s harsh environment with westward facing sun and coastal salt spray exposure, for years to come.
